July events at Thompson Free Library
DOVER-FOXCROFT — This July, squash boredom and spice up your summer routine at the Thompson Free Library in Dover-Foxcroft. On tap, a fun mix of engaging programs that will appeal to all ages.
Wednesday, July 11 at 10:30 a.m. children can “move and groove” with Ms. Jenn during her musically-themed storytime program that features a book, a song, a dance, and a parachute!
Friday, July 13 at 1 p.m. TFL’s own poet laureate Tom Lyford take us on a poetic journey from “Womb to Tomb.” Undoubtedly, laughter and silliness will abound, along with a touch of pathos and a dash of relatable wisdom from his vast experiences and unique perspectives.
Conjuring Carroll will appear at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 18 with cool magic tricks and more up his magician’s sleeve (or out of his hat?).
The relaxation continues at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 19 as folk singer/performer Bill Berlinghoff entertains us with “acoustic music in the Pete Seeger tradition.” He sings a wide array of songs in a rich, flexible baritone while playing the guitar or banjo. To be held outside, weather permitting.
Wednesday, July 25 at 10:30 a.m. L.C. Bates Museum shines a spotlight on the “Rocks in Your Life.” Touch and tour Maine minerals, examine igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks and examine fossil collections — sure to inspire budding geologists.
Don’t forget to have the kids sign up to read to Erma the Reader Therapy Dog. Erma (a German Shorthaired Pointer and trained therapy dog), will sit for 20-minute sessions starting at 2 p.m. every Wednesday through August. It’s a great way for children to become more comfortable and confident with reading.
When you’re at the library, make sure to get the inside scoop on Read ME, the Maine Humanities Council’s statewide summer reading program for adults with a Maine twist. Noted Maine author Paul Doiron has chosen two books by lesser known Maine writers for participants to read “River Talk” by CB Anderson and “Wild: Notes from the Edge of Town” by Susan Hand Shetterly.
Now you can enjoy the great outdoors and stick to your budget with the Maine State Park Pass. We have one pass to loan out for a two-day period. The pass admits the pass holder and occupants of the pass holder’s vehicle, up to a 17-passenger maximum, to state parks and historic sites for day-use only. You can put it on hold just like you do with a book and we’ll call you when it’s available (you cannot reserve specific dates). Rules and conditions apply, and the pass is not accepted at all parks. Stop by or call for more details.
