Greenville school retirees honored

GREENVILLE— Two employees of the Greenville school system were honored at a retirement ceremony in the auditorium of the school on Tuesday, June 4. Roxanne Cunningham had been teaching for 39 years and Vera Davis was a bookkeeper for 16 years. Altogether these ladies had served the Greenville school system for a whopping 55 years!

Superintendent Kelly MacFadyen addressed the students who had gathered in the auditorium to honor these two special women. “We like to pay respect to those who are retiring from our school,” she told the students. “Because they’ve been such a help to so many of us over the years. We have a little garden in front of the school for those who are retiring and these shrubs (she gestured at plants that had been placed on the stage) will be planted in honor of Mrs. Cunningham and Mrs. Davis.” The kids applauded.

Mrs. Cunningham addressed her audience upon receiving a large handmade card. “Thank you so much,” she said, smiling. “I plan on coming back and seeing how you’re doing in the future. I will be very interested to see what you’ve done with your lives when I come back and am 90 years old!” The kids giggled and clapped. “Remember,” Mrs. Cunningham continued. “Keep your eye on your goals and be the best you can be.”
