Penquis Valley students hear from Travis Mills
MILO — Penquis Valley School students in grades 5-12 had the honor to hear Travis Mills speak on May 30. Mills is a retired U.S. Army staff sergeant of the 82nd Airborne is a recalibrated warrior, motivational speaker, actor, author and an advocate for veterans and amputees.
In 2013 Mills founded the Travis Mills Foundation, a nonprofit organization, formed to benefit and assist combat-injured veterans. He also founded the Travis Mills Group, LLC where he consults with and speaks to companies and organizations nationwide inspiring all to overcome life’s challenges and adversity.
Mills had spoken at the National Honor Society (NHS) State Convention and Penquis Valley NHS members suggested they try to have him come to their school. The MELMAC team helped with the funding to bring Mills to Penquis Valley. NHS members were also honored to have a few veterans in the audience.
Mills has a connection with Milo. Jonathan Harmon attended Milo Elementary and he was in Travis’ unit. Harmon was injured two months after Mills. Harmon’s father Gary Harmon was in attendance.
