Little People’s Nursery School and Daycare encourages water consumption
MILO — Ask and ye shall receive. When Debbie Knapp, owner and operator of Little People’s Nursery School and Daycare was looking for ways to make the healthy choice the easy choice, she asked Let’s Go 5210 Piscataquis Coordinator Shannon Fowles how to get her hands on enough water bottles for each of her preschool students and daycare attendees. Fowles, who works at Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft as a community partnership specialist, felt strongly that the hospital would support such a cause, as it works to promote physical activity and nutrition endeavors.
Eighteen waters bottles with the Let’s Go 5210 logo are now in the hands of Knapp’s preschool and daycare participants, which she personalized with their names to be washed and reused each day. Little People’s Nursery School and Daycare is among one of many childcare centers and school programs in the area registered with Let’s Go in an effort to increase healthy habits.
Dr. Victoria Rogers, director of the Let’s Go program, adds “We’re proud to report that fruit and vegetable consumption is significantly higher among students in Let’s Go schools, and 91 percent of the sites we’ve recognized have limited or eliminated sugary drinks.”
