Partners for Peace offering domestic abuse intervention training

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Partners for Peace, a domestic violence resource center will host two 44-hour trainings, one in Dover-Foxcroft and the other in Bangor, for anyone interested in volunteering with the organization. The first training begins June 16 in Dover-Foxcroft. The second will take place in September in Bangor.

Partners for Peace provides support services to anyone affected by domestic abuse and violence in the Penobscot and Piscataquis County region including a free and confidential 24-hour helpline.

“I loved my hotline training experience!,” says Kim Crowley, University of Maine student intern. “I feel like I have grown immensely in my own understandings of domestic abuse and personal confidence in becoming a hotline worker. Furthermore, I gained a bond with my fellow trainees that can only be formed by going through such a challenging, eye-opening, and ultimately positive experience together.”

Trained volunteers will be able to provide a wide array of services in addition to hotline including working with children, helping in the office, and representing Partners for Peace at community events.

Trainings can also go toward continued education units as well as internships, field placements and work study with several area colleges and universities. To express interest in any of these trainings, please contact Saul Allen at 945-5102 or sallen@partnersforpeaceme.org.
