Steven A. Smith

Abbot – Steven A. Smith, 59, died peacefully with family by his side February 15, 2018 at a local hospital. He was born in Troy, NY June 14, 1958 a son of Hugh G. and Marilyn A. (Diedrich) Smith.
Steven grew up in NY and graduated from Troy (NY) High School Class of 1977. He entered the Air Force and proudly served his country as an Airman. Steven believed in family, faith and country. He will be remembered for his love of family, his huge caring heart, his love of all animals especially dogs, and his love of music and singing. When he was growing up in NY he liked to spend summers at the lake and as an adult he enjoyed da car trips to various destinations.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years Beverly (Whiting) Smith; four children Ken Simpson and husband Quentin O’Bryan, Kim Baird and her companion Paul Anderson, Kelly Simpson and his wife Jen; Angela Wilmot and her husband Gordon Googoo; 8 grandchildren Brandon and Trevon Baird; Matthew and Dawson Simpson; Tyler, Megan, Shana and Austin McLaughlin; one great grandchild Melody Simpson; four sisters Nancy Sanders-Ditto, Susan Hammond and her husband Ron, Kimberly Gillam, and Lynn Wilson and her husband Robert; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, grandparents Winfield and Clara Hull, and brother Gary Smith.
A funeral service was conducted 2PM Sunday at the Church of the Open Bible, School Road, Charleston, where friends may call from 1pm until time of service. Spring burial with military honors will be conducted at Abbot Village Cemetery.
