Rodney (Rod) MacNicholl

Rodney (Rod) MacNicholl – Formerly of Glen Spey, NY and Sanford, Maine. Rodney (Rod) MacNicholl, who was born in Stamford, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on Monday morning February 5, 2018.
Rod was a long term resident of the state of Maine, and enjoyed the beauty of the state and the kindness of its people. Rod is survived by his three children Todd, Jennifer and Amy MacNicholl. In addition, Todd’ wife Valerie, their children, Ashley and Carroll. His granddaughter Kelsea MacNicholl, and Amy’s partner Kathy Coyle. Linda MacNicholl, mom to Todd, Jenn, and Amy continues to hold her family together during this difficult time with grace and humor. Rod was preceded in death by his second wildly funny wife, Diana Hearsy. Rod also is missed by his stepson, Tim Hearsy and nephews and niece.
Rod had two careers: Running and Drawing.
Rod was a pioneer and avid runner; he participated in numerous marathons including The Boston Marathon, The New York City Marathon, and various other races. The ultimate race was London to Brighton, England, a 52 miler.  He was a member of several prestigious running clubs, the NYC Roadrunners, New York Pioneer club and Melrose Club. Rod continued to craft his sport, and was sought after to coach, mentor, and provide insight for various books and publications. There have been many people who commented with Rod’s council; their running careers were made, and for some, their life’s saved.
Rod lived in Black Forrest Colony in Glen Spey, New York for many years. While living there he was active in woodworking, working in the yard and also was a volunteer at the local health club, and in his beloved community.
A sought after cartoonist and illustrator, Rod was a successful TV Art Director at Dancer Fitzgerald & Sample (Satchi & Satchi) in New York City. He was the creative mind behind numerous television commercials that had lasting imprints on his industry. These campaigns allowed him to chase Kodiak bears through the woods in Alaska…or shooting hoops with members of the LA Lakers…. and ultimately find his dream home while on a scouting location in Maine.
