Mason and Mikoud among Maine nominees to U.S. service academies
U.S. Sens. Susan Collins, R-Maine and Angus King, I-Maine and U.S. Rep. Bruce Poliquin, R-Maine have announced their nominees to the U.S. military academies. To be considered for an appointment to a service academy, applicants must be nominated by an authorized nominating source, which includes members of Congress.
Beaver Cove resident Anthony Mason, who is a senior at Greenville High School, was nominated by Maine’s senators to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.
Emily Mikoud of Dover-Foxcroft, who graduated from Foxcroft Academy in 2017, is a nominee for the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y.
Mason’s 14 other U.S. Naval Academy nominees are Tristan Cosby of Houlton High School; Eric Heiman Thornton Academy of Saco; Robert Hetherman from the Hyde School in Bath; Dana Hirschhorn from the Waynflete School in Portland; Alexander Howell Islesboro Central High School; Maria Maxsimic Brewer High School; Emily Mousseau Lewiston High School; Dylan Richmond Hebron Academy; Sean Scanlon Cheverus High School in Portland; Anna Sewall Schenck High School in East Millinocket; James Waaler Yarmouth High School; John Wallace Mount Ararat High School in Topsham; Connor Winn Thornton Academy; and Kevin Wrigley Wells High School.
Joining Mikoud in being nominated to the U.S. Military Academy are 13 other students, Samuel Colesworthy Greely High School in Cumberland; Tristan Cosby Houlton High School; Jack Freeman Oceanside High School in Rockland; Elizabeth Garver Mount Ararat High School; Alexander Inman Bangor High School; Brendan Killarney John Bapst Memorial High School in Bangor; Payje Leclerc Old Orchard Beach High School; Michael Lunny Sanford High School; Maxsimic; Asa Muthig Berwick Academy; Eric Quirk Scarborough High School; Aiden Roberts Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, N.H.; and Sierra Weston Lawrence High School in Fairfield.
