GFWC/Miosac Club observes annual meeting with picnic
DOVER-FOXCROFT — The General Federation of Women’s Club (GFWC)/Miosac Club met at Thayer Parkway May 2 for the annual meeting. Hostesses Pat Jones and Minnie McCormick treated members to a cookout prior to the meeting. Hot dogs were on a grill with all the fixings, accompanied by a salad. Dessert was also enjoyed.
President Anne Cress called the meeting to order, thanking hostesses and welcoming members. McCormick lead the Club Collect, American’s Creed and Pledge of Allegiance.
Secretary Diane Leighton took roll with 15 members responding, followed by the minutes of the last meeting and she read a thank you note from Elaine Larson. Treasurer Pat Jones gave her report.
Cress noted May members birthdays and urged members to send cards or call. She reported on the ice out and urged members to keep up with their volunteer sheets. She urged members to continue with Linus quilts, angel pockets, lap robes and to continue to collect box tops. Barb Austin reported that the count for LInus quilts was 380.
Cress spoke about Spring Convention May 11-12 at the Hollywood Slots. At least five members were scheduled to attend. She thanked those who helped with the pinwheel display at the Dover-Foxcroft United Methodist Church. The club will be carrying out the project again next year and hope to add many more pinwheels. This is a project under domestic violence awareness, the GFWC International Signature Project. Pinwheels are a reminder of the time when children’s play was safe and enjoyed.
It has been suggested that the club have a yard sale in the summer of 2018.
With no new business, the meeting was adjourned and the annual meeting was called to order. Leighton gave a summary of all the meetings and activities members participated in for the club year — they were very busy!
Jones reported on the treasury and presented the budget for the new year. The budget was accepted as corrected.
Auditor Austin reviewed the books and found all to be in order. Calling procedure was clarified so that not just one person will be conducting the calling.
With all business taken care of the annual meeting was adjourned.
