Foxcroft Academy announces valedictorian and salutatorian

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Foxcroft Academy will hold its 2017 commencement exercises on Sunday, June 11 at 1:30 p.m. A baccalaureate ceremony will be held before graduation at noon. Both events are planned to be outside on the East Lawn of Foxcroft Academy, with the gymnasium ready in case of inclement weather.

Foxcroft Academy is also pleased to announce the speakers for graduation. The valedictorian for the Class of 2017 is William Casey, the son of Kevin and Becky Casey of​ Dover-Foxcroft.

Casey has been involved at Foxcroft Academy as president of the National Honor Society, treasurer of Student Council, a member of Latin Club and he performed in the one act and three act plays. Casey was captain of the cross country team and a member of the track and field team. Earlier this year, he received the MPA Principal’s Award.

Casey will further his education at the University of Maine in the fall and study environmental engineering.

The salutatorian for the Class of 2017 is Marie Hartung, the daughter of Carl Hartung and Maryann Faucher of Dover-Foxcroft.

Hartung has been a soloist in the Foxcroft Academy Jazz Band, a soloist in Select Choir and a member of National Honor Society. She has also been in several school musical productions and other musical ensembles.

Hartung plans on attending the University of Southern Maine in Portland in the fall to major in environmental science with possibly a minor in music.

Other commencement speakers include Gary Worthing, who will speak on behalf of the faculty of Foxcroft Academy. Worthing is retiring in June after a 40-year teaching and coaching career at the school. The guest speaker is Norman Higgins, Dover-Foxcroft-area state representative and a current Foxcroft Academy trustee.
