Robert Francis Cody
Guilford, ME. He leaves his loving wife of 63 years, Barbara (DiNapoli) Cody; his sons and their wives, Robert Jr. and Catherine, of Dover-Foxcroft, Richard and Tanya, of Mystic, Ct., Ray and Beth, of Hubbardston, Mass., and Ronald and Wendy, of Yarmouth; siblings Terence Cody, Mary (Cody) Coffey and Deidre (Cody) Mills of Adelaide, Australia; and grandchildren Rachel, Ryan, Anton, Sean, Kristopher and Jonathan. Born Jan. 24, 1928, in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Sean Cody and Margaret Egan, and particularly fond of his Uncles Jack and Martin, he attended Saint Saviours Catholic Grammar School and St. Francis Preparatory School. At the end of WWII he served his country in Salzburg, Austria and Munich Germany. Under the GI bill he attended Merrimack College in Andover, MA, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in philosophy and history. For many years, he worked for the Parker Pen Company of Janesville, WI, residing at first in Stuyvesant Town, NY, then North Massapequa (Long Island), NY and Andover, CT, before retiring in 1984 to Guilford, ME. He was a real estate broker in both CT and ME, having worked most recently for J.F. Singleton of Bangor, ME. He was a U.S. Constitution scholar, particularly with respect to implications of government actions on culture, ethics and the affairs of society. He loved to sing and record music with his sons, modeling his repertoire after the crooning styles of Vic Damone and Bing Crosby. He was an avid reader, a learned critic of classic movies and actors/actresses, loved to watch and play tennis, enjoyed gardening and engaging conversation. His greatest love and pride was his wife and family, who will miss him forever.
