2017 Maine Red Hot Dog Festival scheduled for Aug. 12

DEXTER — The Dexter Revitalization Committee (DRC) announced that planning for the second annual Maine Red Hot Dog Festival is well underway. Those who attended last year enjoyed a great day regardless of the less than favorable weather. It was estimated between 2,000 and 3,000 people attended the festival in 2016 and more is expected in 2017.
This year’s event will be held on Saturday, Aug. 12 and is once again sponsored by the DRC and the Maine Highlands Federal Credit Union. The festival will feature such activities as a morning 5K ‘Bun-Run’, 140 feet of giant inflatable obstacle courses, DJ service and live music all day on three different stages. Also planned is a hot dog eating contest and kids pie eating contest, cooking contest, a rubber ducky race, Maine State Police lenco tactical vehicle and K-9 demonstration, Kid’s Zone and bounce house, a heavy equipment petting zoo, a beer tent, a wine tent, food/craft vendors and of course plenty of red hot dogs donated WA Bean & Sons of Bangor.
“Over 200 pounds of red snappers will be available with more on standby,” said Sean Smith of WA Bean. “We’re looking forward to another great event in Dexter.”
“More great events and demonstrations are being added all the time,” said DRC Chair Frank Spizuoco. “This is going to be an event that will put Dexter, Maine on the map.”
There is a kick-off “Friday Night Under the Lights Softball Game” at Bud Ellms Field scheduled on Friday, Aug. 11, and the Dexter Sunrise Kiwanis Red Hot Dog Golf Classic is set for Sunday, Aug. 13 at Dexter Muni.
