Dexter girls defeat George Stevens in Class C North championship

WELL-EARNED HARDWARE — Members of the Dexter Regional High School girls basketball team celebrate after defeating George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill during the Class C North championship at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor on Saturday evening. In a span of just over 24 hours, the fifth seed Tigers defeated No. 1 Stearns 47-44 before earning a 35-32 win over second-seeded George Stevens on Feb. 25 to claim the program’s first regional title since 2007 (which was the last five such consecutive crowns). Dexter will face South champion Monmouth Academy for the Gold Ball on Saturday, March 4 at 7:05 p.m. in Bangor.
