Ridge View Community School holds first geography bee

DEXTER — On Friday, Jan. 27 the Ridge View Community School held its first National Geographic Geography Bee. Eight contestants from grades 7-8 participated. Contestants were chosen by competing in classroom geography bees with the winners representing their classroom in the final event.
Representing grade 7 was Talia Fuller, Justin Williams, Owen Brown and Ora Rudloff-Eastman. Representing grade 8 was Isaac Webber, Brett Kusnierz Josephine Costonis, and winner Robbie Dorman.
Students relied on personal knowledge to answer both written and verbal questions provided by National Geographic. Sue Griffith, seventh-grade social studies teacher, was moderator and grade 8 social studies teacher Megan Hoffman was the judge.
Dorman’s next step is to take an online quiz to see if he qualifies for the state meet. Should his online score qualify him he will then compete in the state competition in Farmington in March.
