PVAEC offering new classes and workshops for spring
DOVER-FOXCROFT — It’s a new year and cabin fever has set in so now is the perfect time to start working on your resolutions. And no matter whether your goals are personal fun, professional advancement or academic completion, there’s sure to be a class for you among the 85-plus that Piscataquis Valley Adult Education Cooperative (PVAEC) is offering.
Classes are day and night, weekdays and weekends, in Dexter, Dover-Foxcroft, Greenville, Guilford, Milo, Monson and Shirley. New classes are added often so check PVAEC’s schedule on Facebook and/or pvaec.maineadulted.org for the latest additions.
For personal fun or enrichment, choose among 26 classes. There are 15 arts and crafts courses ranging from painting and drawing to pottery, knitting, quilting, chair caning and picture framing. There are also 11 classes from safely arming yourself with a handgun or a garden spade to exploring science, Disney World or even the stories of the tarot cards.
Frustrated by your personal computer device? Bring it to one of PVAEC’s eight PC and Apple computer and technology classes.
Want to get fit? Come to the line dancing, bone builders or tai chi classes. Mental wellness topics include meditation, reiki, sugar detox and suicide prevention programs.
Volunteering is a great way to help others and there are six volunteer training classes in foster care, domestic abuse services and hospice care.
PVAEC’s four career and vocational courses are CDL-B training, certified nursing assistant, recreation guide and wilderness first aid and CPR. The CDL-B class begins Jan. 28 while the others start in April. Classes are limited in size so early registration is encouraged. Payment plans and tuition assistance are available.
Professional advancement classes include more than online courses with eight earning professional certificates in accounting, grant writing, web design and office skills.
There are nine medical professional certificate programs for medical coding, billing, transcription and office specialists, dental assisting and pharmacy techs.
Thinking about starting turning your passion or hobby into a business? Our classes are designed for the small business to help you with business planning, legal requirements and record keeping as well as the grants available. There is also a homebuyer’s education class to help you make the best choices.
PVAEC’s academic programs include high school diploma and high school equivalency (HiSET) degrees, help with transitioning to college and career training.
PVAEC serves the needs of four school districts in central Maine who banded together a decade ago to provide a flexible adult education environment for both enrichment and academics.
Serving varying age and learning levels, PVAEC helps academic students finish high school, earn a HiSET, prepare themselves for college or gain certification in a career. All courses are tailored to each individual learner and their unique needs. These classes may be in a traditional classroom setting with any of PVAEC’s four instructors or online via their extensive career and technical education program library.
