Foxcroft Academy named an Apple Distinguished School
DOVER-FOXCROFT — In late 2014, Foxcroft Academy was named an Apple Distinguished School for a two-year designation. This year will not be the end as the school has received word from Apple that it has been named an Apple Distinguished School for another two years.
Emilio Umeoka, vice president of Apple Education, wrote in a letter to Foxcroft Academy, “The administration and faculty at Foxcroft Academy have shown that they demonstrate the Five Best Practices of an Apple Distinguished School: visionary leadership, innovative learning and teaching, ongoing professional learning, compelling evidence of success, and a flexible learning environment.”
Foxcroft Academy officials are honored to receive this distinction for a second straight cycle. “We were the first school in Maine to offer 1:1 iPads to our students and our commitment to innovative learning has not wavered,” Head of School Arnold Shorey said. “Our teachers and students use these Apple devices as tools in the classroom of today, with the thought of what will be done tomorrow. This separates us from many high schools and academies in the state.”
Through innovative practices and experiences, students are empowered to direct the path of their own learning as they collaborate with a faculty excited to work with individuals or small groups for independent study or enrichment. New for teachers this year is Apple Teacher, a program created exclusively for educators that offers tips, inspiration, news and learning materials to help unlock the magic of Mac, iPad and built-in apps in the classroom. Students and faculty live the Apple education mission everyday to provide a learning environment that supports the way students live and how they want to learn.
