Althea “Ava” Moor Burns, 78, passed away July 17, 2016, after a long and heroic battle with cancer.
Born in Milo, ME and resident for many years of Hermon, ME, where she raised a family, she followed her desire to live in a warmer climate by moving to Clearwater, Florida in 1983.
Althea had many interests, especially a lifelong interest in dance that grew to include ballroom dancing. She was very involved with the Florida softball league Kids and Kubs, and counted many dear friends there.
Althea leaves behind her longtime partner both on and off the dance floor, James Archie. She is survived by her three children, Deborah Hawkins and husband, Randy of Philadelphia TN, son, S. Edward Moor and wife, Diane of Chelmsford, MA, and daughter, Roxane Allen of Bangor; grandchildren, Jeremy Allen, Nicholas and Jessica Hawkins, and youngest light of her life, great-granddaughter Scarlet; brother, Ivan Higgins and his wife, Charlotte of Milo, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Harvard Moor in 1982, and her second husband, Don Burns in 1987. The family would like to thank the Yellow Team of Suncoast Hospice for their extraordinarily compassionate care these last few weeks.
A funeral service will be held 11am, Friday July 22, 2016, at Brooking-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor, with the Rev. Garnett Chute, pastor of the Hermon Baptist Church, officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 10 am until time of service, Friday. The family invites everyone to share in conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor, immediately following the service Friday. Interment will be private for the family in Lakeview Cemetery, Hampden.
