Maine Field Hockey Association honors

Three area field hockey players were have been named to the Maine Field Hockey Association All-State Team for their performances during the 2016 season.

The honorees are Dexter Regional High School senior forward Abby Webber and junior mid Becca Batron and Foxcroft Academy senior forward Alli Bourget.

All-State Team criteria is for players to perform consistently at a high level; possess leadership on and off the field; exhibit excellent sportsmanship; and be dedicated to the game of field hockey. Coaches are able to nominate up to three of their players, and nominees are then voted on by all Maine Field Hockey Association member coaches who can vote for up to 11 players on teams other than their own.

Three members of the Dexter field hockey team were chosen for the All-State Academic Team. These Tiger student-athletes are Webber, Alyssa Brasier and Hannah Farrar.

The All-State Team players will be recognized at the Maine Field Hockey Association banquet Dec. 4 at the Augusta Civic Center.

The ceremony will recognize the Maine Field Hockey Association 2016 Hall of Fame inductees, which includes former Foxcroft Academy head coach Gene Philpot. Philpot coached the Ponies for over three and a half decades, amassing more than 350 victories and leading teams to Class C state championships in 1991 and 2007.
