Project Aware director to speak at NAMI meeting

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Donna Brown, director of National Alliance on Mental Illness Maine’s Project Aware, will speak on Tuesday, Nov.  24 at 6:30 p.m. in the Borestone Room at Mayo Regional Hospital before the regular support group meeting.

Project Aware aims to deliver Youth Mental Health First Aid to the three high-need counties of Piscataquis, Somerset and Washington to increase the protective factors for children in rural Maine through education efforts.  Classes for the juvenile justice staff in the Department of Corrections, the non-clinical staff from mental health agencies, local and state law enforcement leaders, and health educators, athletic coaches and extracurricular activity leaders will focus on mental health issues of youth in rural areas.

Anyone from the community wanting to know more about this program is invited to Brown’s presentation.  For more information, please call 924-7903.
