DOVER-FOXCROFT, Maine — The state fire marshal’s office has charged two teenagers from Dover-Foxcroft with arson after a building near the town’s water tower was set ablaze over the weekend, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said Monday.

On Monday, fire investigators arrested two 16-year-old boys and charged them with arson and burglary.

The fire occurred on Saturday afternoon at the water district’s property on Reservoir Road.

Both boys were released to the custody of their parents or guardians. The names of the teens are being withheld because of their age.

McCausland said the fire caused about $50,000 in damage to the cement block building, which contained control and alarm panels, pumps and tools owned by the water district. The building was destroyed.

The town’s fire and police departments, along with the Piscataquis County Emergency Management Agency and water district personnel, were dispatched to make sure there was no accidental discharge of water and no damage to the nearby water tower.

A date for the teens’ initial court appearance has yet to be set.
