DRHS Athletic Hall of Fame announced

DEXTER — Dexter Regional High School is excited to announce the first inductees into the newly formed Dexter Regional High School Athletic Hall of Fame. The 2015 inductees will be honored on Oct. 10 during halftime of the Homecoming football game, which starts at 1 p.m. There will then be a formal banquet at 6 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall.

The inductees are athletes: Russell Clukey (‘64), Kevin Curty (‘70), Eric Haley (‘72), Jana Brown Wheaton (‘67), Randy Curtis (‘76), David Bolduc (‘71) and Dick Barstow (‘52). Coaches: Don Holsapple, Ed Guiski, Ted Clark, Jill Goulette Jones and Kathy Richard Pierce. Supporters/contributors: Frank Spizuoco Sr. and Joe Bolduc. Team: 1971 state championship wrestling team.

This endeavor came to fruition because long-time Dexter coach Margaret Veazie felt strongly that many outstanding athletes, coaches and supporters, with many accomplishments in their careers, have walked the halls of NH Fay, Dexter High School, and Dexter Regional High School. Having talked with Tim Wilson about this, the consensus was that it was time to honor these individuals for their service to the school sports programs.

The Dexter Regional High School Sports Academy class assisted with the legwork to start the project. Twenty students in this class did research, compiled lists of names, and formally contacted several individuals to help create a committee for the Athletic Hall of Fame. The committee volunteers were Spizuoco, Wilson, Stephen Bell, John Parola, Peter Murray, Kelly Tobin, Jill Goulette Jones, Haggie Pratt, David Gudroe, two Sports Academy students and Veazie.

After several meetings, the group identified the parameters for the first two groups of inductees (2015 and 2016). The 2015 inductees are athletes, coaches, supporters or teams dating back to or before 1979. The inductees for 2016 will range from 1980-2006. After these initial years, the Dexter Regional High School Athletic Hall of Fame will be open for individuals to nominate through the AOS 94 website. Nominees will have to have been out of school for at least 10 years to be considered.

Those wishing to attend the banquet can purchase tickets at 924-5536..
