Mayo Regional Hospital and state health care leaders form partnership

Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft and 10 other community health care organizations across the state have joined together to form Community Care Partnership of Maine (CCPM), an Accountable Care Organization collectively committed to improving the quality and effectiveness of health care delivery in Maine and reducing unnecessary healthcare costs.

A press conference was held Sept. 22 at Penobscot Community Health Care in Bangor for these organizations to discuss their shared mission of the partnership through CCPM including: Penobscot Community Health Care, St. Joseph Healthcare, Mayo Regional Hospital, Sebasticook Family Doctors, Millinocket Regional Hospital, Cary Medical Center, Pines Health Services, Katahdin Valley Health Center, Portland Community Health Center, Nasson Health Care, and DFD Russell Medical Center.

Kenneth Schmidt, MPA, CEO of Community Care Partnership of Maine, said, “CCPM’s members are all capable and independent community health care organizations which are wholly committed to ensuring the delivery of high quality and effective health care to the people of their communities in a manner that is cost effective and promotes better health outcomes.”

Marie Vienneau, president and CEO of Mayo Regional Hospital states, “We are honored to be a part of such a comprehensive organization committed to improving care and the health of our communities. We know this will lead to better outcomes for patients in the Penquis region.”

CCPM partners are mission-based and local community-based health care organizations focused on improving the health of the communities they serve by working together to transform the delivery of healthcare through meaningful support and learning in order to help their patients be as healthy as possible. Partners commit to working collaboratively to achieve this goal to share best practices, maintaining or achieving stringent national quality standards including patient care management, extended hours, and proactive utilization of electronic medical records for preventive care.

CCPM members are participating in a MaineCare Accountable Community, and most will participate in a CCPM Medicare Shared Savings Accountable Care Organization, as well as various commercial health insurance ACO programs. All of these programs are focused on the goals of the Triple Aim: improved patient outcomes and experience, and reduced health care costs. During Monday’s news conference, leadership of Mayo Regional Hospital and participating partners spoke about how Accountable Care is beneficial to patients and healthcare providers across the state.
