Piscataquis Amateur Radio Club to offer licensing class
MILO — The Piscataquis Amateur Radio Club (PARC) announced plans to offer a licensing class. The American Radio Relay League (ARRL) sanctioned class will provide an introduction to the exciting world of amateur radio in addition to preparation for taking the license exam.
Amateur (“ham”) radio has much to offer. Some hams serve their community by providing communications support for public events or by training to serve alongside first responders in the event of emergency. Others come for personal and recreational reasons. More powerful and flexible than any of the unlicensed personal radio services, the diversity of ham radio makes it well suited to fit a wide range of interests. Benefits to individuals, communities, and the world are countless.
In a friendly, relaxed atmosphere the class will cover basics of electricity, electronic components and circuits, fundamentals of radio, setting up a station and communicating with other hams using a variety of methods. Additional topics include license privileges, regulations and safety.
The class will meet for 12 sessions, Monday and Thursday 7-9 p.m. at the Milo Town Hall beginning March 12. The cost includes the book “ARRL Ham Radio License Manual”. A license exam session has been scheduled for April 25 at 9 a.m.
