Maine DOT unveils plans for Guilford Memorial Bridge
GUILFORD — The Maine Department of Transportation announced that they’ll replace the deck on the Guilford Memorial Bridge and close one lane at a time over a 6-8 month period.

NEW HOME FOR THE THREE RIVERS KIWANIS — A ribbon cutting on July 30 formally opened the new building for the Three Rivers Kiwanis Club of Milo and Brownville, located at 24 Gerrish Road in Milo at the entrance to the Eastern Piscataquis Business Park. St. Albans literacy specialist hired as PCES principal
GUILFORD — Anita Wright of Pittsfield, a literacy specialist/coach in RSU 19, was hired to succeed Julie Orton as principal of Piscataquis Community Elementary School.
AT information center opens in Monson
MONSON — An Appalachian Trail information center was opened in the former Monson Elementary School complex.
Bousquet hired as interim principal at Penquis
MILO — Jeremy Bousquet, who had served as a teacher, coach and extra-curricular advisor for the past eight years, was appointed interim principal at Penquis Valley High School.

Ribbon-cutting held for new Three Rivers Kiwanis Club
MILO — An official grand opening was held at the permanent home of the Three Rivers Kiwanis Club in the Eastern Piscataquis Business Park. Among those attending were Gov. Paul LePage and representatives from Maine’s congressional delegation.
New company moves into Greenville business incubator
GREENVILLE — GlacierWear, a manufacturer of high-end fur and leather hats, vests and other products, announced that they were moving into the Greenville Industrial Park. The owners, Randy and Colleen Richard, formerly lived in Greenville.
Hilton family donates $250,000 to the Moosehead Marine Museum
GREENVILLE — During the 100th anniversary of the steamship Katahdin, the Hilton family of Greenville announced that they would donate $250,000 to the Moosehead Marine Museum in memory of Louis O. Hilton.
Keane named principal of PCHS
GUILFORD — John Keane of Bradley, who served as a junior high principal for 15 years, was named principal of Piscataquis Community Secondary School,

Lorigan resigns as Union 60 superintendent
GREENVILLE — Union 60 Superintendent Beth Lorigan resigned from her position after nearly four years, but agreed to stay on in a limited role until February 2015.
Rusted Rooster Farm honored by PCSWCD
PARKMAN — Rusted Rooster Farm in Parkman was named the 2014 Cooperator of the Year by the Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District.
D-F Fire Department receives $63,000 grant
DOVER-FOXCROFT — Maine’s congressional delegation announced that the Dover-Foxcroft Fire Depart would receive a $63,431 grant through FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters program.
Pearson stepping down as Sangerville town manager
SANGERVILLE — Citing his desire to enjoy more personal time, Sangerville Town Manager David Pearson, 66, announced his resignation effective Dec. 31.

Chamber honors AMB Signs
as Business of the Year
MILO — AMB Signs in Dover-Foxcroft, owned and operated by Carl and Vicky Brackett, was honored as the Piscataquis County Chamber’s Business of the Year at its annual meeting at the Three Rivers Kiwanis Club.
Minister purchases the former Dexter Café
DEXTER — Merlin “George” Dever, pastor of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, was the high bidder for the former Dexter Café which had been vacant for several years after being acquired by the town for back taxes.
Tourtelotte departs as Piscataquis County manager
DOVER-FOXCROFT — Piscataquis County Manager Marilyn Tourtelotte and the county commissioners reached an agreement to terminate her employment, effective Oct. 15. Former County Commissioner Tom Lizotte was hired as her successor on an interim basis.
Milo officials mull options to deal with rising valuation
MILO — Town officials in Milo are looking for ways to cope with a rise in state valuation and the resulting impact on the sale of properties in the community.
NOVEMBER
Republicans sweep Piscataquis County
PISCATAQUIS COUNTY — Republicans Norm Higgins and Paul Stearns were elected to the Maine House for the first time and incumbent Ray Wallace was sent back to Augusta from District 104. Paul Davis was elected to Senate District 4 and incumbent Sheriff John Goggin defeated Dover-Foxcroft Police Chief Dennis Dyer.
Butler hired as Monson town manager
MONSON — Lucas Butler, a former administrative intern and recreation director for Caribou, was hired as Monson town manager succeeding the retiring Julie Anderson.
TCTC looking at Rockwood School for programs
DEXTER — The Tri-County Technical Center is looking at the former Rockwood School to house its upcoming Wilderness Pathways course. The building could be leased for as little as $1 a year, according to state education officials.
D-F selectmen working on cable TV franchise agreement
DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Dover-Foxcroft Board of Selectmen discussed adoption of a cable TV franchise agreement, noting that the 15-year contract with Time Warner was expiring in 2015.

Brown honored with Myrick Award
DOVER-FOXCROFT — Richard M. Brown, the CEO of Charlotte White Center, was presented with the Warren “Pete” Myrick Award for community service by the Piscataquis County Economic Development Council at its annual meeting.
Two ladies earn Boston Post Canes
PISCATAQUIS COUNTY — Corinna Noyes, 101, of Dover-Foxcroft and Dorothy “Dot” Tabor, 91, of Monson were both presented with Boston Post Canes by town officials in their respective communities.
E-W highway moratorium extended in two towns
PENQUIS — The Dover-Foxcroft Board of Selectmen and Dexter Town Council both voted to extend the moratoriums already in place on construction of private distribution corridors in their communities. Voters in both towns also approved the measure at the November election.
County budget approved on a 2-1 vote
DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Piscataquis County Commissioners approved the new county and unorganized territories budget by a 2-1 vote but agreed unanimously to retain interim County Manager Tom Lizotte through the next fiscal year. Fred Trask of Milo opposed the budget.
