Three Rivers Kiwanis having a busy season

MILO — On Saturday, Dec. 20, Three Rivers Kiwanis of Milo-Brownville member Pauline Mullins and her three helper elves shared the holiday spirit with residents of New Beginnings, an assisted living home in Milo. The Kiwanians offered cookies and hot chocolate, and Santa Claus arrived to hand out gifts for each resident.

Iona and her guest, daughter Lillian, Toni, Louie, and Mary were pleased to visit with Santa and enjoy the holiday treats. The residents shared stories of their lives and opened presents, getting them in the mood for the upcoming holiday. A fifth resident was absent because she was enjoying a lunch date with her children visiting from New Jersey. She was surprised to find her gifts waiting for her when she returned home.
Also on Saturday, Kiwanian Bonnie Washburn and her helper elves handed out gifts of clothing purchased by Three Rivers Kiwanis and toys donated by Toys for Tots to 268 deserving children from the Milo and Brownville areas. Parents went through an application process at the schools to sign up for the program. Milo Masonic Lodge members offered the families a turkey for their holiday meal.
Three Rivers Kiwanis of Milo-Brownville (established in 1991) meets every Wednesday morning at the Kiwanis Building at 24 Gerrish Road at 6:30 a.m., except the last Wednesday (be it the fourth or fifth Wednesday of the month), when they meet at 6:30 p.m.
There will be a grand celebration on Wednesday, Jan. 21 at 6:30 a.m. marking Kiwanis International’s 100th birthday. The public is always welcome.
