Orneville woman charged in connection with pot farm robbery
Staff Report
AUGUSTA — Maine State Police announced last week that two more persons have been arrested in connection with the armed robbery of a medical marijuana grower on Sept. 21 in Winterport including an Orneville woman. Two men had earlier been charged.
The robbery was captured on a security camera as three armed men, dressed as police officers, made off with a number of marijuana plants.
The third man wanted in the robbery, 45 year-old Kerry Hurd, was arrested on Dec. 11 in Bucksport. He was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals and state police in the parking lot of a Hannaford supermarket without incident and taken to Waldo County Jail.
He is charged with robbery, impersonating a public servant, trespass, and theft by unauthorized taking.
Hurd’s brother, Jeffrey Hurd, and Scott Roberts, turned themselves in to police in early October.
Also arrested in connection with the robbery is 28-year-old April Jones of Orneville Township. Troopers say she drove the three men to the robbery and is the Roberts’ girlfriend.
Troopers arrested Jones on Dec. 9 at her home and charged her with robbery and theft by unauthorized taking. Jones was taken to the Piscataquis County Jail in Dover-Foxcroft.
