Dexter man pleads guilty to 2012 Guilford Rite Aid robbery

Staff Report

BANGOR — A Dexter man pleaded guilty to robbing a Rite Aid pharmacy in Guilford in March 2012 during an appearance at U.S. District Court in Bangor last week, U.S. Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II announced in a news release.

Michael Thompson, 27, will be sentenced after the completion of a presentence investigation report by the U.S. Probation Office, according to Delahanty.
Thompson was charged with entering the drugstore on March 10, 2012, jumping over the pharmacy counter, demanding drugs and threatening employees with a large hunting knife.
After Thompson left with an estimated $500 worth of painkillers, he discovered that someone — who had reportedly noticed that a robbery was in progress — moved his vehicle which was still running at the time.
He then reportedly tried to steal two vehicles at knifepoint but was unsuccessful. He then ran across the street to the post office and stole a van that was being loaded. The U.S.P.S. vehicle was later found on Harlow Pond Road in Parkman, where officials believed another vehicle was waiting for Thompson.
Thompson confessed to the robbery after he was arrested following a high-speed chase last July that ended when he flipped a stolen truck in Ripley.
The investigation that led to Thompson’s arrest and conviction was conducted by the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Office, Maine State Police, Federal Bureau of Investigation and Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, Delahanty said.
