‘Hometown Holidays’ kick off in Greenville this weekend

    Parades, activities, horse-drawn carriage rides, tree lightings and Santa sightings, goodies, contests, caroling, open houses, and much more make Piscataquis County the place to visit from Nov. 29-Dec. 6.
    The Greenville/Moosehead Lake region will be celebrating “Deck the Halls” on Nov. 29, one week earlier than the rest of Piscataquis County, in conjunction with Small Business Saturday, a national program encouraging shoppers to buy from small businesses in their local areas. They have activities planned from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. throughout Greenville. Local shops will be decorated and offering one-day sales from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

    The Center for Moosehead History will be holding a “Holiday Bazaar” and a “Mistletoe Marketplace” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Santa and Mrs. Claus at will visit at 11:30 a.m.
    The Moosehead Marine Museum will be open for holiday activities and special sales and the Greenville Fire Department is hosting fun games for kids from 9:30 -11:30 a.m.
    There will also be a NREC silent auction from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at their headquarters at 35 Pritham Ave. with proceeds to benefit the Maine Woods Explorer Program. Check their Facebook page for details.
    Participating restaurants will offer “Home for the Holidays” lunch and dinner specials from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. From 12-4 p.m., the Boy Scouts will be selling hot dogs and chili on the lawn of the Union Church.
    The parade line up will begin at the industrial park in Greenville Junction at 3 p.m., with the parade officially starting at 3:30 p.m. and ending at Union Church.
    At 4 p.m., there will be a “Lights of Life” tree lighting ceremony and caroling at the Christmas tree near the Union Church. At 5 p.m., there will be mass at the Holy Family Catholic Church.
    The festivities end at the high school gym with a “family sock hop” sponsored by Greenville High School Key Club and Moosehead Kiwanis.
