Public hearing set on expanded ATV access in Greenville

Staff Report

GREENVILLE — The Greenville Board of Selectmen has been asked to extend the current ATV access route network to include passage through the downtown intersection and also access to Indian Hill via Route 15. So a public hearing will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 3 at 6 p.m., 30 minutes prior to the regular Board of Selectmen’s meeting.

According to Town Manager John Simko, “selectmen may or may not be ready to take action on this request. Similarly, the board had granted a one-year permission to the Moosehead ATV Club to have an access route pass up Lily Bay and Scammon Roads, and also up Varney, Drew and East Roads in separate votes,” Simko wrote in his meeting preparation packet. “The board may or may not be prepared to take action on whether to continue this route next year, or not.”
Other items on the Sept. 3 agenda include an update by Fire Chief Matt St. Laurent who would like to schedule a workshop session when the board may “walk through the fire station and discuss planned and necessary improvements.”
The board will also take up the Phase II requirements for the MicroEnterprise Assistance Grant awarded to Northwoods Gourmet Girl through the town. The remaining paperwork includes some signatures, a public hearing and a special town meeting vote to accept these funds. Notice requirements for the CDBG program precluded inclusion of this article on the recent special town meeting, Simko pointed out.
Also, Dr. Ken Woodbury and Janet Sawyer from the Piscataquis County Economic Development Council will present an informational meeting for parties interested in applying for a similar MicroEnterprise Grant or accessing the PCEDC’s microloan program. That meeting will be held in the municipal building meeting hall on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 6 p.m.
The public works truck replacement issue is back on the agenda after being tabled at the last meeting. Public works foreman Mark Bernier and Simko will present the results of recent bids and make a recommendation on how to proceed with replacement of the 2003 Sterling plow truck.
Ann Marie Murray,  chair of the Greenville School Committee, has asked town officials if the two boards could meet to discuss plans for the coming year and how the town and school may work better together. Chair of the Board of Selectmen Richard Peat has also suggested  that the two boards get together on a regular basis. Murray suggested a meeting for Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 6 p.m.
Two executive sessions are also on the agenda. One is to discuss an economic development project and the other is on a personnel matter.
