Selectmen discuss health initiative and rec center lease

Staff Report

GREENVILLE — The Greenville Board of Selectmen heard a presentation from Meg Calloway from the Charlotte White Center at their July 2 meeting as part of a countywide effort to assess health-related issues facing communities.
Her group has scheduled a meeting for at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 9 in the municipal meeting hall to solicit comments from community members.

An example might be the need for an assisted living facility which bridges the gap between someone who needs nursing care as opposed to a person who needs limited services but prefers to stay in their own home.
Another might be the lack of adequate child care services in the community.
Recreation Director Sally Tornquist and Town Manager John Simko have met with the town’s insurance carrier’s loss control consultant regarding the space planned for use as a at Leisure Life Lodge where the former fitness center was located.
Selectmen authorized Simko and Tornquist to work with all parties and the owners of Leisure Life Lodge to craft and to execute an agreeable lease.
Simko also reported that the Executive Director Suzanne Buchanan has resigned as executive director of the Moosehead Lake Region Chamber of Commerce and Amanda Hunt has stepped down as president.
Liz Cannell of Moosehead Marine Museum has been elected president and a search for a new executive director is under way. Since the turnover has occurred at the height of the summer season, Simko said the town is attempting to help with the chamber “as best it can with scheduled special events.”
The board also reappointed Jack Hart of Frenchtown Township as code enforcement officers and Brian Turner of Monson as Licensed Plumbing Inspector; and approved two liquor license requests from Jeff’s Catering of Brewer for the International Seaplane Fly-In in September.
