Penquis Valley High School honor parts

    MILO — Matthew Hackett, principal of Penquis Valley High School, has announced the honor parts for the Class of 2014.

   Trevor Lyford, son of John and Marilyn Lyford of LaGrange, has been named Valedictorian. Lyford will be attending Brown University in Providence, R.I., and he will pursue a degree in the biology/medicine concentration. 
   While at Penquis Valley, Lyford held positions as Class of 2014 president, Key Club officer, National Honor Society president, Student Council officer, Williams Book Award winner, Decker Prize recipient and MPA Principal’s Award. He is a four-year member of the soccer, basketball and baseball teams, serving as captain in all three. Lyford also has been elected to a magnitude of athletic teams/awards including:  PVC soccer, basketball and baseball teams, All-Eastern Maine, All-State Soccer, McDonald’s basketball team and McDonald’s All-State Academic Team, Mr. Maine Basketball semi-finalist and the PVC Scholar Athlete Award.

   Thomas Diaz, son of Ricardo Diaz and Sharon Campana of Brownville, has been named Salutatorian.  Diaz will be attending Bowdoin College in Brunswick, and he will pursue a degree in the biology/pre-medicine concentration. 
    Diaz is a member of the National Honor Society, Key Club officer, Decker Prize recipient, Gifted & Talented scholar, a four-year member as a student representative to the SAD 41 school board, Sons of American Legion and Seeds of Peace. He has participated in track & field, and soccer for four years. Diaz also has participated with the tennis team.

   Isabel Ruffin, daughter of Dale Ruffin and Andrea Pilon of Milo, has been named First Honor Essayist. She will be attending Warren Wilson College in Swannanoa, N.C., pursuing a double major in outdoor leadership/sustainable agriculture.
    Ruffin has participated in National Honor Society, Key Club officer, Student Council, 4-H, Chewonki Semester School, Close-Up participant, Decker Prize recipient, Desktop Publishing Award, American Legion Oratorical Contest winner and Government Highest Average Award. She has been a member of soccer, cheerleading and track & field teams.

   Tristen Beckett, son of Chris Beckett of Hampden and Stacy Beaulieu of Milo, has been named as Second Honor Essayist.  He will be attending Eastern Maine Community College, pursing a degree in medical radiography.
    Beckett has participated in Key Club, National Honor Society, Decker Prize recipient, Yearbook Committee, and Prom Committee. He also enjoys photography, wildlife, plants and all outdoor activities.
