Beane’s resignation accepted, new chief appointed
SANGERVILLE — After submitting a letter earlier in the month, the Sangerville selectmen formally accepted the resignation of Charles “Chuck” Beane as fire chief during a Feb. 27 meeting.
“The board has read Mr. Beane’s letter of resignation as fire chief,” Select Chair Tom Carone said before he and fellow board members Melissa Randall and Bill Rowe voted to accept the resignation.
Beane, who had been Sangerville’s fire chief for eight years, previously told The Piscataquis Observer he was resigning for medical reasons, after suffering a serious leg injury while plowing a road for Herrick Construction in the Spencer Bay area. Beane broke his tibia, fibula and bones in his ankle.
Town Manager David Pearson had acknowledged that Beane’s resignation was voluntary due to his injuries, but said some items under investigation related to Beane’s position as chief and information had been turned over to the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department.
Following the acceptance of Beane’s resignation, the selectmen appointed Jeff Willey Sr. as the new fire chief.
On Saturday, March 29, at 9 a.m. at the fire station, will be the annual town meeting. Residents will vote on nearly 60 warrant articles, which were approved by the board during the Feb. 27 meeting. The financial articles equal a combined sum of just over $1,730,000, an increase of approximately $19,500 from the current year.
