ORONO — The Foxcroft Academy indoor track team placed third out of a field of seven during a Feb. 1 meet at the University of Maine, scoring 53 points.
Junior Fern Morrison led the Ponies by winning two events. Morrison won the 400 in a time of 1 minute, 2.8 seconds and she had the day’s fastest time in the 800 at 2:32.60. She also anchored the second-place 4×200 relay squad, joining senior Chastity Vainio, freshman Erika Chadbourne and senior Kate Sukhanova for a time of 2:04.84.
A trio of Foxcroft athletes had third-place performances. Senior Liza Grigoryeva was third in the two-mile with a time of 13:55.43; senior Abigail McLeod placed third in the high jump at 4 feet, 6 inches: and senior Mia Smith was third in the pole vault at 7-06.
Chadbourne added a fourth-place finish in the 400 at 1:10.05. Vainio finished sixth in the 55 at 8.44 seconds.
Competing as an individual, Dexter Regional High School Meredith Roderka had the day’s third-fastest run in the 800 at 2:40.06.
The Foxcroft boys picked up 50 points to place fourth out of seven teams.
Junior Peter Boyer was the winner in the 55 hurdles, running a time of 8.90 seconds. He also was third in the shot put at 42-01.50 and fifth in the triple jump with a top distance of 35-10.50.
Senior Corey Bjornson came in second in the shout put, at 44-02.25, as did sophomore Abraham Simpson in the 800 at 2:11.39. Third in the triple jump was junior Zhe Chen at 36-10.25.
Fourth-place performances were Bjornson in the 55 hurdles, 9.60 seconds, and sophomore Gabe Piquette in the two-mile at 12:46.49. The Pony 4×200 relay came in fifth as junior Noah Simpson and sophomores James Smith, Paul Birtwistle and Abraham Simpson combined for a time of 1:50.45.
Penquis Valley High School senior Tom Diaz ran in the 800, having the seventh-fastest time at 2:19.05.
