The American Legion 14 District (Piscataquis County) with Commander Peter Johnson conducted the annual Oratorical Contest Jan. 30 at the Joseph P. Chaisson Post 41 of Milo. With five distinguished judges Keegan Cannell, a freshman at Greenville High School was awarded second place, and he received a Silver medal, oratorical certificate and a check for $50.

First place was awarded to Penquis Valley High School senior Thomas Diaz, and he received a Gold medal, oratorical certificate and a check for $100. Diaz will represent District 14 at the Department of Maine contest Feb.15 at Thomas College in Waterville.
