PARTNERSHIP WITH PCES

In late October, the sixth-graders of Piscataquis Community Elementary School learned that the local food cupboard was having some real struggles financially. The Maine Partnership Food Pantry in Guilford feeds approximately 110 families every two weeks.
They also provide nutritious food for the weekends, for students through the Backpack Program. The sixth-grade team and students decided to hold a fundraiser entitled “Pocket Change for Turkeys.” For the entire month of November, students and staff were encouraged to bring in spare change. The coins would be given as a donation to the MPFP to help with their needs. On Nov. 22, the money was counted and rolled by students of Rochelle Titcomb and Diana Hobart. A total of $112 was presented to Al Hunt, MPFP Director. Hunt thanked the students for their generosity, and told them that, with his ability to purchase food at a discount, a gift of $100 would provide close to $1,500 worth of food for local families.
