Two injured in Moosehead Lake plane crash
Staff Report
NORTHEAST CARRY TWP — State Police say a couple escaped serious injuries Saturday night when their single-engine plane crashed into Moosehead Lake in Northeast Cove.
The plane went into the lake in Northeast Carry Township as it was attempting a water landing around 7 p.m., according to Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland.
The Cessna 185 four-seat aircraft with pontoons tried to land on the water, but crashed and was found submerged in about 20 feet of water.
The pilot was 31-year-old Thomas Coleman of West Forks and his passenger was 24-year-old Ashli Goodenow of Portland, who was airlifted to EMMC in Bangor via LifeFlight with what turned out to be a minor head injury.
Coleman also had minor injuries and did not require hospitalization, McCausland said. The pilot said he was flying from Jackman to Northeast Carry Township.
State Trooper Matt Grant and Game Warden Bob Johanson responded to the scene and the accident will now be investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration.
