Sebec Village Associates to sponsor creative contests for Apple Festival
SEBEC — The Sebec Village Associates are gearing up for the Second Annual Sebec Village Apple Festival on Saturday, Oct. 19.
The 2012 festival was a huge success and the members are planning even more this year, so they want to get the word out early since there are fun and exciting contests and activities for all ages.
There is a photo contest for all ages with simple rules. Pictures must be 4 by 6-inches or larger in color or black and white and there must be at least one apple in the picture.
Pictures will be judged on creativity, content and execution. The name, age, and phone number of the photographer must be submitted with the picture to Barbara Mauzy at PO Box 59, Brownville, ME 04414.
All entries must to be received by Wednesday, Oct. 16. No pictures will be returned by mail, but all will be on display in the Reading Room in Sebec Village and they can be picked up on the afternoon of Oct. 19, the day of the Apple Festival. There will be two categories of judging: over 18 years of age and under 18, so including the age of the photographer is essential.
The next contest is for all children in grades kindergarten through grade 5.
The theme is “Apples,” and youngsters are encouraged to write a story, essay or poem, or create any piece of artwork they would like using any medium.
The name, grade, and phone number of the child must be submitted with the finished project and all work must be sent to Barbara Mauzy, PO Box 59, Brownville, ME 04414.
All entries must be received by Wednesday, Oct. 16, the same date as the photography contest.
Entries will not be returned by mail, but all will be on display in the Reading Room in Sebec Village and entries can be picked up on the afternoon of Oct. 19, the day of the Apple Festival.
There is a contest just for seniors age 65 and older. Seniors are asked to make anything with an apple theme. Entries can be brought to the Reading Room in Sebec Village between 9-10 a.m. on Oct. 19, the day of the Apple Festival.
There is also a scarecrow contest for all ages. Hay and stakes will be provided; just bring your own head and clothes.
Finally, what would an Apple Festival be without a pie baking contest? Dig out your recipes and peel your apples, because the judges are eager to taste your best efforts.
Pies need to be at the Reading Room in Sebec Village by 11 a.m. on Oct. 19.
The Apple Festival will be held at the Reading Room on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. As always, there will be great food available for purchase including baked goods with an apple theme.
A nice variety of games, crafts, and activities will be available for children of all ages and there will also be local artisans selling their hand made craft items.
