CARR, Merton W., 78, of Greenville, April 19, 2013. A memorial graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 18, at the Abbot Village Cemetery, Abbot. Arrangements are in the care of Crosby & Neal Funeral Service, Guilford.

American Flag ColorPO Merton Carr OBGREENVILLE – Merton W. Carr, 78, died April 19, 2013, at C. A. Dean Hospital in Greenville, surrounded by his family. He was born September 26, 1934, in Abbot, the son of Clifton and Florence (Glidden) Carr. He proudly served in the US Marine Corps. during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a logger and later as a caretaker in the Falmouth area for many years.
    He was predeceased by his wife, Gertrude (Blethen) Carr; five brothers, all of whom also served in the military; a sister; and two sons, Randall and Rexford.
    He is survived by three loving daughters, Teresa and her husband, Chuck Talbot, Cheri and her husband, Randy Wentworth all of Abbot, and Roxanne Holmbom of Greenville; six grandchildren, Joshua, Lucas and his wife, Kati, Melissa, Stephanie, Hannah and Allyson; seven great-grandchildren, Hannah, Dylan, Gabe, Gracie, Beau, Makayla and Jaydon; several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind a special friend, his dog, Murphy.
    A memorial graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 18, at the Abbot Village Cemetery, Main Road in Abbot, with Pastor Ray Beless officiating.
