Foxcroft cross country closes out regular season with first-place performances

CORINTH — The Foxcroft  Academy girls and boys cross country teams each finished in first place during an Oct. 22 meet at Central High School.

In the girls’ meet Foxcroft ended up with a score of 15 points to earn top honors. Dexter Regional High School, host Central, Lee Academy and Schenck High School of Millinocket all finished with no score.

Senior Kaylee Durgin led the Ponies by placing third among 16 entrants. Durgin covered the 2.75-mile course in a time of 21 minutes, 41.61 seconds. Next was junior Makayla Landry in fifth place at 23:33.42.

The other three point-scorers for Foxcroft were junior Olivia McCorrison, seventh at 24:43.16; senior Xiaodi Wang, 11th at 27:38.02; and senior Martina DeLucia, 12th at 29:06.34.

The Ponies’ other runners were senior Luna Kemur, 13th at 29:07.62; junior Seojin Yoo, 14th at 32:14.27; and junior Ahn Doan, 15th at 32:25.73.

Dexter sophomore Annika King was second in the meet. King covered the course in a time of 21:09.17. Tiger sophomore Emma Alexander was sixth at 24:06.15.

In the boys’ meet Foxcroft came in first with 27 points, 10 ahead of second-place Lee. Dexter finished third with a score of 66 points and Central had no score.

Pony senior Joseph Keenan placed second among a field of 29 entrants. He ran the 2.75 miles in 16:51.42. In third place was senior Caleb Fockens at 17:44.53.

Rounding out the Foxcroft top five was sophomore Gunnar Berling-Haugh, fifth at 18:12.64; junior Krystofer Downing, eighth at 18:42.74; and sophomore Joseph Nelson, ninth at 19:08.47.

The other Pony runners were junior Aiden Currie, 10th at 19:10.18; freshman Zachary Peirce, 21st at 21:20.42; junior Nguyen Nhat Nguyen, 24th at 23:03.77; senior Kerem Bekmez, 25th at 23:04.28; and senior Hai Pham, 26th at 23:04.83.

For Dexter, senior Michael Gadwah led the Tigers with his sixth-place run. Gadwah covered the 2.75 miles in a time of 18:19.02. Freshman Jacob Ponte was next to cross the finish line for his team by placing 11th at 19:22.68.

The rest of the Dexter five was freshman Hunter Cram, 17th at 20:44.13; junior Miles Gadwah, 27th at 23:06.40; and sophomore Christian Gallant, 28th at 26:01.49.

Foxcroft and Dexter will run next in the Penobscot Valley Conference qualifier for the state championships on Saturday, Oct. 31 at Saxl Park in Bangor. Dexter will be in the Class C boys race at 9 a.m. and Class C girls at 11:15 a.m. For Foxcroft Class B boys is at 1:30 p.m. and Class B girls is at 3:45 p.m.
