Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield earned a spot in the Class B North boys quarterfinals on Wednesday night with a 75-69 victory over Foxcroft Academy in Pittsfield.

The Houlton Shiretowners earned their way into the Class B North quarterfinals by virtue of a 56-41 victory over Foxcroft Academy on Tuesday night, Feb. 11.

Seventh-seeded Narraguagus High School easily defeated No. 10 Piscataquis Community High School 64-31 Tuesday, Feb. 11 during a Class C North preliminary tournament game to advance to the quarterfinals.

The co-main event provided the biggest surprise of the night when veteran Jesse Erickson of Central Maine Jiu-Jitsu in Auburn upset previously undefeated Josh Harvey -- who is a graduate of Dexter Regional High School -- with a first-round armbar.

The Foxcroft Academy girls picked up 29 points to place eighth among 10 teams at  the 2020 Penobscot Valley Conference Swimming and Diving Championships on Feb. 8 at the University of Maine. The Ponies finished just ahead of the 28 points for George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill and the six points for 10th-place Searsport District High School.

Cheering teams from Dexter Regional High School and Penquis Valley High School each took part in state championships competitions on Saturday, Feb. 8 at the Augusta Civic Center, two weeks after earning berths at the respective qualifiers.

There was a lot of use of our trails during this past weekend/week. Our groomers were out over the weekend and spent multiple times grooming the trails. They are in good shape even with the little show that is under the trails

Squaretail. It’s been awhile since that word has been used around anglers, but I like it, and miss hearing people use it. It’s one of those words that triggers the synapses and gets gray-haired anglers thinking back to canvas-covered Old Town boats and bamboo rods.
