Partners for Peace, the domestic violence resource center formerly known as the Spruce Run-Womancare Alliance, will host a 40-hour training session in Dover-Foxcroft for anyone interested in volunteering with the organization. A new documentary film by Maine filmmaker and musician Tonya Shevenell, “The Home Road,” will be screened at the Center Theatre at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 21. Shevenell and her father Ray will be in attendance for a post-screening discussion.

The Libra Foundation recently purchased the former Brothers Chevrolet-Buick site on West Main Street in Dover-Foxcroft with plans to convert the building into an all-season indoor recreation facility with artificial turf. It will add an indoor ice rink and a connecting building that would include locker rooms and spectator space and serve as the primary entrance.

In August 2015 the Monson Historical Society was contacted by a University of Maine student who was writing a thesis on hermits of Maine. Apparently the Monson/Elliotsville/Onawa area of Piscataquis County contained many such reclusive men over the years and thus began the journey for several members of the historical society.
