Upcoming summer events

On Election Day Tuesday, June 13th voters will be going to the polls. Unlike many other elections, we are not seeing constant media coverage as there is only one State bond question being voted on. There is a lot being decided here at the local level and it’s important that Dover-Foxcroft voters weigh in on these issues.

Once again the budget season for school districts is upon us and once again my concern in writing this letter is the way in which the school committee chooses to handle the SAD #4 budget development

It saddens me to see people use this space to put out misleading and false information to the taxpayers and voters of Dover-Foxcroft. Therefore, I feel the need to correct information which Chris Maas stated last week in the publication of this newspaper.

Having trouble harvesting a small amount of hay for your few animals? Ever wonder how people mowed, raked, gathered and stored grasses before modern fossil-fuel run equipment? Saturday morning June 10, Dexter Dover Area Towns in Transition (DDATT) will sponsor a small-scale haymaking workshop to demonstrate simple hand tools that run on whatever you had for breakfast, as well as a small gasoline powered sickle bar mower.

Genealogists have an unwritten code of ethics. While we should seek the truth about our family lines without flinching, we also have an implicit obligation to respect others’ privacy and not cause deliberate hurt needlessly by revealing secrets.

Our administration has done a good job bringing accountability to the Maine Turnpike Authority. Mainers are still counting on us to ensure that turnpike revenue is spent as efficiently as possible.

The Center Theatre and the Slightly Off-Center Players announce auditions for the upcoming production of “Nunsense” written by Dan Goggin. This hilarious production is being performed by an all-female cast, ranging in ages from the late teens to seniors.

Six women from the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) Miosac Club in Dover-Foxcroft attended the GFWC Spring Convention at the Hollywood Hotel & Casino May 11-12. Those attending were Suzanne Raymond, Anne Cress, Minnie McCormick, Vicki Moschella, Rheba Michaud and Dorothy Tonick along with 55 other women from around the state.

It is with great pride that I write to you about the RSU 68 school budget. Throughout the budget process, the RSU 68 School Board worked with a guiding principle that says they are committed to making transparent, student-centered budget decisions. The budget that was presented and accepted at the May 30, 2017 district budget meeting reflects the belief in that principle.
