RJ Nelson is a senior wrestler at Foxcroft Academy. He is a team captain and wrestles at 132 pounds. On Jan. 6 the Pony wrestling team competed at the Warrior Clash at Nokomis Regional High School in Newport. Nelson would not only become a tournament champion, but he also reached an incredible milestone by winning his 150th career match.

As a small business owner who also represented a largely rural community in the Maine State Senate, I know first-hand the importance of access to broadband in communities like ours.

In the early 1990s, working as a partisan legislative staffer, I had an idea for the upcoming statewide election. Some of our state House and Senate candidates were campaigning in Districts where their victory was uncertain. A few more registered voters in those Districts favoring our candidates would be a good insurance policy.

The Foxcroft Academy swim team was on the road Jan. 12 with a dual meet against Ellsworth High School. The Pony girls fell by a score of 114-38 and the host Eagle boys won 129-22.

Terry Hayes, Maine’s first independent state treasurer and independent, clean elections candidate for governor, is honored to announce the support of Rep. Norman Higgins, I-Dover-Foxcroft. Treasurer Hayes will be campaigning in Piscataquis County on Friday, Jan. 19 with Rep. Higgins who represents House District 120.

The Center Theatre announced recently that registration is open for the 2018 drama camps. This year’s offerings include both a February and April vacation camp as well as the long-standing Summer Drama Camp.

Give Gov. Paul LePage a break. Sure, his note to a 16-year-old who is concerned about the future of the internet was insensitive. Absolutely, he was tone deaf. And really, who doesn’t sign a personal note with a third-person job title? But the advice, despite the deeply flawed delivery, was sound.
