It was a rainy afternoon on Sept. 28 when Matt DeLaney of Millinocket finished running all the trails in Baxter State Park. With mud splattered on his legs, he trotted into Trout Brook Campground and signed out of the hiker registration log: 40 miles in 11 hours. And that’s just one day of many.

The Calvary Chapel Highlanders of Calvary Chapel Maine Highlands of Dover-Foxcroft received a grant -- with a total value of approximately $6,800 -- including archery equipment, .22 rifles and BB rifles and an indoor/outdoor inflatable BB gun range from the Friends of the NRA.

The first in this series is on Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Democratic headquarters, 25 North Street, from 1-3 pm. The conversation on Oct. 5 will explore different aspects of the First Amendment, including the right of peaceable assembly, the right to petition the government for redress of grievances, the prohibition of laws establishing a religion or those that prohibit its free expression and the right to freedom of speech. Free pocket-sized copies of the U. S. Constitution will be available to all participants.

An OpEd was published by Matthew Gagnon where he placed doubt on current climate science by identifying examples of some past climate predictions which never happened. If all of us had a dime for every economic forecast, or political science poll or sports prediction that didn’t happen in the past we would all be rich.

My kudos go to Matthew Gagnon whose column clearly states one reason that I am a staunch denier of the so-called climate scientist predictions. I am 80-years-old and have lived through every one of these dire predictions mentioned in the column.
