The old bank building on East Main St. in Dover-Foxcroft has seen several tenants come and go over the past few years, leaving local residents hoping for a new business owner to come in with a fresh vision for the space, a new idea, product or service that will fill a gap in the town’s offerings. Now, it's a restaurant specializing in waffles.

The Foxcroft Academy boys finished sixth among nine schools with a score of 33 points during a Penobscot Valley Conference/Eastern Maine Indoor Track League meet on Dec. 28 at the University of Maine. Pony junior Logan Martin won both the 55 meters and long jump to pace the team

At 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 5 in  the Mayo Regional Hospital conference room, the Wassabec Genealogy Chapter will be holding a business meeting and program. The program will be well known genealogist Nancy Battick who will be discussing how to research probate records and deeds.

The more years I spend on earth, the faster each year speeds by. Not an original thought, I know: “Older” people have been telling me similar things forever. Now, it seems, I’ve finally reached an advanced enough age that their nonsense finally makes sense.

Though Peace, Love, & Waffles has been open since November, there will be a grand opening celebration from 3-5 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 9 with a 4 p.m. Piscataquis Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting ceremony. The first thing I notice about Patrick McNamara's video on the LinkedIn business networking site? It is low-tech. Positioning his smart phone vertically, Mr. McNamara looks directly into his phone's camera. Sometimes we see his full face. Sometimes we see his head profiled. And sometimes part of McNamara's face is out of our field of view. Each video is just under a minute in length, with McNamara offering on each five-to-six lessons on what he calls "basic dude stuff."

Call me conservative, but I love tradition. And there is no finer tradition on these pages than the month of December, when I get to make predictions for the coming year, and -- as I'm about to do now -- I hand out superlatives for the year that was. 2019 came and went all too quickly, but there are plenty of bests and worsts to talk about.
