Partners for Peace Free Movie Day at Center Theatre

DOVER-FOXCROFT — October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Partners for Peace, the domestic violence resource center for Penobscot and Piscataquis counties, has several events and opportunities for the community to get involved.

On Sunday, Oct. 25 there will be Family Movie Day at the Center Theatre in Dover-Foxcroft. Showtime is at 3 p.m. for “Hotel Transylvania: Transformania” and doors will open at 2:30 p.m.

“Creating accessible spaces for families to come together and enjoy time with one another is a high priority for us at Partners for Peace. These types of events are just as important as awareness walks and vigils during Domestic Violence Awareness Month as we work toward building safe, resilient communities that can thrive,” Casey Faulkingham Bixby, Partners for Peace director of development and engagement, said.

This event is free and there is no need to purchase a ticket ahead of time. There will be free popcorn, face painting, door prizes and kid-friendly Halloween costumes are encouraged.

Community members can also support survivors by donating to Partners for Peace, hosting a fundraiser or donation drive, sharing Domestic Violence Awareness Month information on social media or exploring ways for their businesses to participate. Partners for Peace offers a suggested reading list for adults and young adults who want to learn more about domestic violence and abuse, as well as children’s books with age-friendly messages intended to prevent domestic abuse.

Details about events and ways to get involved are available on the organization’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month page at https://www.partnersforpeaceme.org/prevention/domestic-violence-awareness-month/.
