UMaine Extension offers webinar on greenhouse technology

University of Maine Cooperative Extension will host a beginner-friendly webinar on greenhouse technology for growers and gardeners from 6 to 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6.

“Basics of Greenhouse Technology” will introduce the fundamentals of greenhouse systems and how they can extend the growing season, improve crop quality and make growing more reliable in Maine’s variable climate. The session will be led by Ankit Singh, assistant Extension professor with University of Maine and Anna Wallingford, entomologist with New Hampshire Community Supported Research. 

During the webinar, participants will learn about greenhouse structures and materials; heating, cooling and ventilation; basic automation; environmental controls; and irrigation and water management. The session also will cover common greenhouse challenges, low-cost solutions and integrated pest management, including how environmental conditions can cause crop problems that may be mistaken for pests or diseases. This webinar, part of UMaine Extension’s online Commercial Horticulture Series, is eligible for 1 Maine pesticide recertification credit.
