Penquis hosts Project Play for Child Abuse Prevention Month
DOVER-FOXCROFT — April is National Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness and support efforts that strengthen families and build safer, healthier communities. As part of this initiative the Penquis Prevention Council and the early childhood education students at Tri-County Tech Center are hosting Project Play, a no-cost, family-friendly event focused on fun, learning and community connection.
Project Play will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 18 at the Piscataquis County Ice Arena in Dover-Foxcroft. Families are invited to enjoy a variety of engaging activities, including a bounce house, a touch-a-truck experience and interactive booths from numerous organizations and programs offering valuable family resources.
“This event is all about celebrating families and providing a space where parents and caregivers can connect with resources while kids of all ages enjoy a fun-filled day,” said Christine McMillen, Prevention Council, project manager at Penquis. “Last year, approximately 500 people enjoyed this event, and we are looking forward to another great turnout.”
Project Play will also feature a free BBQ hosted by Shaw’s Supermarket, adding to the day’s festivities.
The Penquis Prevention Council works year-round to support parents and caregivers through education, resources, and connections that help families thrive. Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month is an important reminder of the role communities play in ensuring children grow up in safe and nurturing environments.
