Six from the area play in NCAA Div. III field hockey tournament

    A half dozen area residents, graduates of either Dexter Regional High School or Foxcroft Academy, took part in the 2014 NCAA Div. III field hockey tournament. Five of the six are continuing their field careers at Husson University in Bangor — Dexter graduates Sarah Eastman and Libby Kain and Foxcroft alums Amber Anderson, Lindsey Arno and Whitney Arno.

    The players helped Husson finish 2014 with an overall record of 9-9, and a perfect 5-0 mark in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play. In the conference champion top-seeded Husson earned a 1-0 victory in the second overtime against No. 3 University of Maine-Farmington. Following the game, Kain was selected to the NAC All-Tournament team
    The win in the NAC finale gave Husson the fourth NCAA berth in program history and first since 2011. On Nov. 12 the Eagles — one of 24 teams to qualify for the tourney — traveled to Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass. for an opening round game. Mount Holyoke earned a 2-0 victory against Husson.
    Eastman, a sophomore nursing major from Dexter, is the daughter of Scott and Sue Eastman. She played in all 18 games for Husson, and was fourth on the team with five goals.
    A sophomore psychology major from Dexter, Kain is the daughter of Anita Libby-Kain and Donald Kain. She played in all 18 games and led Husson with nine goals, including a pair of game-winners, while also picking up two assists.

ANDERSON

LINDSEY ARNO

    Anderson, of Dover-Foxcroft and a freshman majoring in nursing, is the daughter of Scott and Sheva Anderson. She played in 15 games and had an assist.
    A sophomore occupational therapy major from Dover-Foxcroft, Lindsey Arno played in 14 games and picked up a goal.
    Sophomore Whitney Arno is a nursing major from Dover-Foxcroft and is the daughter of Scott Arno and Dawnelle Arno. Arno played in 15 games with one assist.
    Simmons College sophomore Gabi Henderson, of Dover-Foxcroft and a graduate of Foxcroft Academy, helped the Sharks get to the NCAA tourney for the first time in program history.
    The team finished 2014 with a record of 13-6, going 5-1 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play. No. 2 Simmons defeated fourth-seeded Anna Maria College in the inaugural GNAC championship, 3-1, which was the Sharks’ ninth victory in 10 games.
    On Nov. 12 Simmons traveled to Bidddeford to play the University of New England in an NCAA opening round game. Simmons lost this contest, 2-0.
    Henderson played in 18 games, scoring a goal and assisting on an another. She is majoring in biochemistry and the physician assistant track, and is the daughter of Mirna Reyes-Henderson.
