BJHS Alumni Association scholarships

BROWNVILLE JCT — The last student graduated from Brownville Junction High School in June of 1968. That was the year that Brownville joined with Milo and other surrounding communities to form Maine School Administrative District 41 and students from that point on attended high school at Penquis Valley School in Milo. Nearly 15 years after that last graduate crossed the stage in the gymnasium former students decided to form an alumni association and last week that group provided seven current or soon to be college students with scholarships in the amount of $1,500 at its annual reunion.

These scholarships are available to children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of those alumni who are members of the Brownville Junction High School Alumni Association or students who have graduated from Penquis Valley High School and pay dues to the BJHS Alumni Association. The scholarships are awarded solely on merit.
This year’s scholarships were awarded as follows: two scholarships are awarded to high school students who graduated this year. The Allen B. Lente Scholarship was awarded to Trevor Lyford of LaGrange and the BJHS Alumni Scholarship was given to Patrick Buzza of Auburn.
Two scholarships, named for former teachers at Brownville Junction High School were presented also. The Greta Connors Scholarship was given to Holly Wadman of Ellsworth while the Eleanor Rosebush Scholarship winner was Robert Garnett of St. Stephen, New Brunswick.
The Margaret Law Scholarship is awarded to a student enrolled in the medical profession and the recipient of that scholarship was Elise DePlanche of Berlin, Mass.
Two scholarships are available to all students who apply. The Henry & Annie Graves Scholarship was awarded to Rachel Worster of Brownville; the Don Stiles Scholarship was presented to Jacob Caron of Eddington.
